Фото Mind‑Reading Houseplants? The Backster Files Cleve Backster was a celebrated CIA expert who claimed a surprising discovery in 1966. While testing a Dracaena houseplant with a lie‑detector, he recorded strong electrical responses when he imagined damaging the plant,  even before he touched it. … The thought entered my mind to burn the leaf. I didn’t verbalize the idea; I didn’t touch the plant; I didn’t touch the equipment. Yet the plant went wild.  From this single incident he proposed “primary perception”: the idea that plants can sense human intentions and emotions.  His findings became a cultural phenomenon (inspiring  The Secret Life of Plants book by Peter Thomkins), but most scientists claimed they were unable to reliably reproduce the results. Backster published mainly outside mainstream science. In his 1997 interview, after more than 30 years of experimenting, he raises an important issue of whether consciousness really exists in the brain I think Western science exaggerates the role of the brain in consciousness. Some very good research has been done on the survival of consciousness after bodily death. All of it points toward the notion that consciousness need not be specifically linked with gray matter.  At the GL curated discussion next week “Plants: Allies or Aliens” we’ll explore these big questions of research on consciousness and spirituality  Come with an open mind and a readiness to question assumptions.
